A&E Racing/FXR/KTM’s Shelby Turner took the victory in the Women’s class at round 2 of the 2018 EnduroCross series at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, California. Turner’s victory ties her with FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Kacy Martinez for the point lead with four rounds remaining in the series.
“I am so excited to take the win at round 2 of the EnduroCross series this weekend,” Turner said. “This was a huge victory for me, [both] mentally and physically. It’s not easy to come back from injuries, but standing on the top step makes it feel that much better! I can’t wait for more next weekend!”
Martinez took the lead on the opening lap, but was passed by Turner shortly after. Martinez made up some time on Turner before the race ended, but she was unable to pass and finished in the runner-up position.
“Coming into the night show, I was feeling good and confident with my lines,” Martinez said. “I got a good jump off the line and came into the first turn leading, and halfway through the first lap, I switched up my line going into the rocks and it wasn’t a good choice. I went to second and made another mistake in the Matrix and lost a ton of time. From there, I focused on my lines and rode a lot better. I ended up running out of time to make anything happen.”
Beta USA’s Morgan Tanke took the final step on the podium despite injuring her foot in practice. Havoc Racing Husqvarna’s Maiah Hamocon, and Allie Dorsey rounded out the top five, respectively.
