Last year was a major overhaul year for the XC-W line of KTM’s two-stroke enduro machines. Updates to the suspension made the KTM 250 XC-W and 300 XC-W a bit “racier” than in the past, moving to the closed-cartridge WP coil-spring fork (from the previous open-cartridge system). The company also switched to the throttle body injection (TBI) Keihin fuel-injection system, from the now defunct transfer port injection (TPI) EFI design. But KTM isn’t one to rest on its laurels even after presenting a 95 percent new enduro machine only one year ago.
For 2025, the KTM 250 XC-W sees more changes, including a revised swingarm, revised suspension settings, and a new look with fresh bodywork and a new orange gripper seat.
The enduro-tuned engine produces a wider spread of power than its quick-revving SX and XC cousins. A sixth gear and wide-ratio transmission allow it to shine in varied terrain over longer distances. Keihin EFI handles the fuel system, as mentioned, while a separate oil-injection system means you don’t need to premix fuel. A handy warning lamp on the dash will even warn you when your reservoir is low.
The engine map switch is an optional add-on, but the skid plate, hand guards, headlight, and kickstand are standard, as is a compact enduro computer with a speedometer and clock. Electric start, Brembo brake and clutch hydraulics, suspension that can be adjusted without tools, a quick-release headlight, and a specialized triple clamp are among the fancy bits and bobs that make the KTM 250 XC-W a premium yet formidable weapon on the trails.
The 2025 KTM 250 XC-W is available in orange for $11,199.
- Husqvarna TE 250, $11,349
- Sherco SE 250, $11,799
- Beta 250 RR, $9,699
