2020 AMA Supercross Eastern Regional 250SX Class Preview

13 factory riders will compete in the Eastern Regional 250SX class in 2020.

With the 2020 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series well underway, there is still a group of talented riders who have yet to take to the track—those competing in the Eastern Regional 250SX Class. Those racers will get their first taste of competition at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, on February 15, a venue the series hasn’t visited since 2018.

The remainder of the Eastern Regional 250SX Class Championship will visit AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas; Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta; Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida; Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis; Ford Field in Detroit; Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts; and wrap up with the 250SX East/West Showdown at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City. It’s a bit surprising that this year’s series wraps up in Salt Lake City instead of its usual finale in Las Vegas. Vegas is still on the schedule, but it’s the penultimate round and will serve as a Western Regional 250SX Class Championship race.

Here’s a look at the 13 factory riders competing in the Eastern Regional 250SX Class Championship in 2020.

Geico Honda

As defending Eastern Regional 250SX champion, Chase Sexton will be one of the riders to watch in 2020. Later in the year, Sexton will reportedly be moving up to the 450 class for the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.

Chase Sexton is the defending Eastern Regional 250SX Champion, so by default he’s one of the favorites right out of the gate when the series kicks off. He’s also expected to move to the 450 class later in the year for the 2020 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, joining Ken Roczen on Team Honda HRC, so it looks like Big Red has big plans for Sexton.

Although he has won two Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross 250 Class Championships, Jeremy Martin is looking for his first Supercross title in 2020.

Jeremy Martin is reportedly back up to speed and ready to go after missing all of 2019 due to the back injury he suffered at round 5 of the 2018 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Muddy Creek Raceway. Martin is Geico Honda’s most experienced rider, having won the outdoor title in the 250 class in both 2014 and 2015, though he is still looking for that elusive first Supercross title.

Hunter Lawrence spent most of 2019 on the mend. However, the talented Aussie is expected to turn some heads when the Eastern Regional 250SX series kicks off at Raymond James Stadium.

However, the Australian won a couple of motos in the 2019 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship at High Point Raceway and Spring Creek MX Park, and will have a chance to display his Supercross talents in 2020.

Decotis spent last year with the Suzuki factory effort as well, so he should be familiar with the bike and it should show in his performances. The Massachusetts native has also raced a few rounds in the 450 class so far in 2020 to get some gate drops in before the Eastern Regional 250SX series begins on February 15.
