For going one step beyond.

Those with wanderlust shouldn’t be bothered by such details as where the pavement ends and the dirt begins. That was the mission of the original adventure bikes in the early 1980s, and it is the renewed mission of the Multistrada 1200 Enduro today. With dirt-worthy suspension (7.9 inches of travel at both ends), dirt-rated tires (a larger 19-inch front and a standard 17-inch rear), a proper bash plate, and increased fuel capacity (7.9 gallons), the Enduro is truly built to do it all. Its 1,198cc Testastretta DVT engine delivers a claimed 152 hp, more than adequate for moving the bike’s reasonable 496 dry pounds apace.

Everyone wants to be a pro at something, so why not globe-trotting? For a $2,000 premium, the Multistrada 1200 Enduro Pro adds a Termignoni titanium exhaust, LED spotlights, an abbreviated windshield, a steering damper, Pirelli Scorpion rubber, and crash bars for that eventual encounter with a gravity patch. An optional Touring Pack adds aluminum panniers, heated handgrips, and a handy handlebar-mounted storage bag.

Likes: Ducati's ultimate expression of a world traveler

Dislikes: This oversize load is too big for smaller riders

Verdict: If the 1200 Enduro fits, ride it
