News 7/14: Team Troy Lee Designs sweeps inaugural Supermoto

- press release -July 11-13 Monterey, CA Team Troy Lee Designs riders, Jeremy McGrath, Jeff Ward and Troy Lee took Laguna Seca by storm at the inaugural AMA Supermoto race. Held in conjunction with the World Superbike races, there was plenty action on hand, but once the Supermoto event got underway all eyes were turned to see who would be the first winner(s) in the new series.Troy Lee Designs/Honda Team rider Jeremy McGrath got the holeshot in the main event and held teammate Jeff Ward for 18 laps. Wardy was on MC's rear tire the whole time pushing for a pass, but Jeremy was a master at holding him back. KTM rider Kurt Nicoll was not far behind the TLD boys holding a strong 3rd and putting a little more pressure on. The opportunity came in the 2nd turn and the smallest mistake resulted in a perfect pass from Jeff Ward to take over the lead. Kurt also got the advantage on MC and made a pass to take the number 2 spot, putting MC in line to finish 3rd. The next 6 laps belonged to Wardy who took the checkered flag. 42 year old Jeff Ward would become the 1st winner in the new Supermoto series.For Troy Lee Designs, Funbike Center, Honda, Giant RV, and all the sponsors that made the Team possible, it was a perfect moment seeing our boys on the podium in 1st and 3rd! The response from the crowd at Laguna Seca, many of who had never seen anything like Supermoto before was overpowering. The excitement took over as thousands watched familiar names like MC, Wardy, Palmer, Metzger, etc. on the pole. This was surely the start of something big.
