2024 KTM 450 SX-F Technical Information

Features and specifications of KTM’s 2024 standard-model 450cc motocrosser.

KTM’s 450 SX-F finished on the final spot of the podium in last year’s Dirt Rider 450 Motocross Shootout after receiving a top to bottom overhaul. For 2024, the Austrian manufacturer gave its flagship motocross bike some revisions to fine-tune the overall platform with updated suspension settings aimed at improving bike balance and comfort. Prior to testing the 450 SX-F at Fox Raceway, we threw it up on a Works Connection bike stand to grab some static photos and detail shots, which are listed below with captions. KTM’s fuel-injected liquid-cooled SOHC four-stroke 450cc single-cylinder engine is known to be one of the most powerful in the class, and that rings true once again in 2024.Jeff Allen

The 2024 KTM 450 SX-F produces 56.4 hp and 34.6 lb.-ft. lb.-ft. of torque at the rear wheel on the Dirt Rider dyno.Jeff Allen

Keeping it clean while still including plenty of electronic features, KTM positions the engine start and stop button on the right side of the Neken handlebar, while the engine map, traction control (TC), launch control, and quickshift (QS) buttons are on the left.Jeff Allen

KTM’s owner’s manual specifies what characteristics the two engine maps provide and how to activate launch control, but the Austrian manufacturer includes this sticker on the frame just as a reminder.Jeff Allen

Although it went away from air forks on its cross-country racers, KTM continues to use pneumatic front suspension on the SX and SX-F motocross bikes. In the case of the full-size models, it’s a WP Xact 48mm closed-cartridge air fork.Jeff Allen

WP’s Xact 5750 shock is employed at the rear. Stock damping settings are 15 clicks for low-speed compression, 1.5 turns for high-speed compression, and 15 clicks for rebound.Jeff Allen

Stock fork leg height is at the second line, but some test riders prefer to set them at the third line to put more weight on the front end in an effort to get the front suspension to ride lower in the stroke (being that air forks have a tendency to ride higher in the stroke than their coil-spring counterparts).Jeff Allen

It’s important to keep a close eye on spokes of any new bike, but this applies even more so to KTM, Husqvarna, and GasGas dirt bikes. Their spokes come loose very quickly when new, especially by the rim lock.Jeff Allen

In terms of appearance differences from last year, there’s more purple in the radiator shroud graphics than before, and an orange rear fender and white fork guards.Jeff Allen
