Monster Energy/Yamalube/Star/Yamaha Racing’s Aaron Plessinger went 1-1 at round 7 of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship at the Redbud National. Plessinger’s performance gave him his third win of the season and the fifth victory of his career. He now leads the championship standings by 35 points over his nearest rival.

“The last few races following Muddy Creek have been tough,” Plessinger said. “My confidence took a bit of a hit with some of the issues I had, but the starts are super important and today we proved where we belong when we get starts. I like this track and I’ve never actually been on the podium here before, so this is cool with the Motocross of Nations coming up here in a few months.”

Alex Martin

Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Alex Martin (26) earned another podium with his 4-3 finishes.

Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Alex Martin earned another podium with his 4-3 finish, giving him second overall on the day. He is currently second in the 250 class point standings.

“Today we were looking to go 1-1,” Martin said. “That was the goal, especially with Redbud being [where the Motocross des Nations will be held]. Obviously, I’m a little disappointed with how today went. I really struggled in the first moto. I just couldn’t get a rhythm going and couldn’t find my flow. I don’t know how I salvaged fourth. In the second moto, that was mine to be able to go battle with AP and we weren’t able to make it happen. Obviously, I still got the podium and second overall. If we’re going to win this championship and contend with AP, we’ve got to be up there a little bit more.”

Dylan Ferrandis

Monster Energy/Yamalube/Star/Yamaha Racing’s Dylan Ferrandis struggled with less than desirable starts, but managed to put his YZ250F in third place in moto 1 and fourth place in moto 2 to take third overall for the day.

“Both motos I had terrible starts and I had to come from the back [of the pack],” Ferrandis said. “In the last few laps when everybody’s tired, I tried to just stay at my speed and try to pass guys, and that’s what happened today. I’m definitely feeling disappointed by my weekend. It’s not what I expect, especially at Redbud. I was really looking forward to winning. I’m kind of mad at myself because two bad starts just killed me. I had the speed and physical endurance, but it’s good to be on the podium.”

Shane McElrath

Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Shane McElrath (28) went 5-9 for fourth overall.
