2018 Husqvarna FS 450 Supermoto | First Look

Husqvarna Motorcycles announces an updated supermoto machine, the new 2018 Husqvarna FS 450 (click here to check out last year's FS 450).

Here's the scoop from Husky on new Supermoto bike: Husqvarna is focused on introducing further advances in engine performance and a new design with high-tech components aboard their 2018 FS 450.

The new FS 450 is a single-cylinder SOHC engine with an all-new slipper clutch developed by Swiss specialist Suter Industries. The slipper clutch gives ease on controllable slides and offers a smoother & more precise response. It prevents instability and hopping when braking hard into turns and allows for maximum control for perfect supermoto-style drifting. Allowing for more advanced control of engine settings, the FS 450 offers an easily accessible mapping switch on the handlebar. The switch also initiates the launch control which limits the amount of power to the rear wheel and permits what Husqvarna claims as improved traction & eliminates loss of control during hard acceleration. A 44 mm Keihin throttle body, an exhaust system and 5-speed gearbox work in synergy to create maximum performance.

The updated engine is housed inside a hydro-formed, laser-cut and robot-welded steel frame that has been specifically designed by WP Performance Systems with calculated parameters of longitudinal and torsional flex. Unique to Husqvarna models, the composite sub frame is made of 30% carbon fiber making it remarkably light and particularly strong.

Designed with inlet ducts positioned precisely to prevent air deformation, the airbox ensures maximum airflow and maximum filter protection. The air filter is easily accessed, without tools, by removing the left side panel. Easy maintenance is guaranteed by the Twin Air filter and filter cage design that features a simple fail proof mounting system for accurate installation.

The FS 450 is equipped with a set of black 16.5” and 17” Alpina spoked wheels for front and rear. The wheels are matched with Bridgestone 125/80 R420 and 165/65 R420 slick tires for maximum grip, traction and agility. The supermoto bike is equipped with a Pro Taper handlebar and Brembo brakes’ 310 mm front disc with a 4-piston radially mounted caliper for the front and a 220 mm disc for the rear wheels.
