Geico Honda’s RJ Hampshire achieved his first career overall victory in the 250 class at round 11 of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship at the Budds Creek National in Mechanicsville, Maryland. The Honda rider sits fifth in the championship standings with one round remaining.

“It was awesome,” Hampshire said. “We just haven’t been able to put two motos together. It’s not because of myself, actually. I’d put a good moto in and I’d almost get killed the next moto—I’d get taken down off the start, someone would land on me, whatever. Chase and I went 1-2 today, and that’s a big boost for our team. They’ve been working hard to improve the bike, and it showed today.”

Monster Energy/Yamalube/Star/Yamaha Racing’s Aaron Plessinger took the victory in moto 1 and wrapped up his first 250 class Pro Motocross national title in the process.

“I was starting to get jitters on the sight lap for moto 1 today,” Plessinger said. “I tried my best to not think about the championship and just focus on the race, but it’s tough because the thought is definitely there. I had so much excitement and emotions after the first moto that it was just really hard to focus for the second race. It’s been such an incredible year and I don’t think it’s really sunk in yet.”
