How Much Power Does the 2026 Yamaha YZ250F Make?

Dyno testing Yamaha’s MY26 250cc four-stroke motocross bike for horsepower and torque.

Since 2014, Yamaha’s YZ250F has differentiated itself from class competitors with a reverse cylinder head design. Another big update in 2014 was the move to EFI, and the blue 250cc four-stroke motocross bike from Japan has enjoyed seemingly endless praise since, especially for its low-end grunt and abundant midrange. Top-end isn’t the YZ250F’s strongest suit, but it’s no slouch at high rpm either. The 2026 model produces 39.5 hp and 18.4 lb.-ft. of torque on our in-house Dynojet 250i rear-wheel dynamometer, and like so many prior years is praised by Dirt Rider testers across the board.

“The YZ250F engine is wonderful and plenty fast for my novice skill level,” test rider Clint Wells said. “Its power is aggressive and throttle response is fantastic. My only engine-related complaint is it’s way too loud.”
