We've said it before and here it is again: having a good light can really increase your ride time. And getting a good light makes a big difference in how much fun you can have in the dark. Most good lights are pretty expensive, and stock lights on some of the off-road bikes are rather weak. Trail Tech has a cost-effective light for trail riding that really gets the job done right. The Torch Halogen Headlight is based off of the X2 HID light we like so much. It has a clean design, a flood/spot pattern and a price that is easily digestible. For most models and for a $20 price bump, you can order it with a matching stock wiring connector and a HI/LO/kill switch so it hooks right up without a wire-cutting mess. Dual rubber straps connect it to the fork with a locating pin attachment on the lower, similar to a stock KTM. Trail Tech's website will tell you if your bike will run the 70-watt light with the stock ignition. And if your bike won't power it, they can help there, too. Now, this isn't a light to go out and run 60 mph-plus on fast desert roads and feel safe, it just doesn't have that kind of throw. What it does do is light up everything you'd need to see at 35 mph and below and has a really good wide beam for tight and technical stuff. It is the kind of light you don't have to adjust much since the pattern is so broad and there's a bonus in that it shines up well to warn of those awful headhunter branches! At about a $200 savings off of a top-flight HID light, you get 70 percent of the light for a third of the price. Mounting was simple, but some bikes with a lot of wires/instrument cluster stuff in front of the fork could have clearance issues. It is available in seven colors and graphics ($9.95) are available as well. So for $79.95 (no connector) or $99.95, you can be riding at night and doing it right. -Jimmy Lewis
