Used 112–150cc Youth Motocross Bikes To Buy in 2025

The largest-displacement motocross models for kids that manufacturers offer in stock trim.

Today, many young riders jump from an 85cc two-stroke to 250cc four-stroke instead of a 125cc two-stroke, and it’s a big one. Those making such a leap are going from a dirt bike designed for kids to a full-size machine intended for adults, and quite an increase in power goes along with the physical size difference. To make said jump a little less daunting, two motorcycle manufacturers offer youth motocross bikes of two engine types and displacements—one a two-stroke of supermini competition engine size and the other a four-stroke to help riders become accustomed to a thumper’s power delivery. Both of these models haven’t changed much mechanically (if at all) during their lifetimes, which is one less thing to focus on when searching for said models pre-owned. Read on to find out which 112–150cc youth motocross bikes can be found secondhand and learn more about them in general.

Kawasaki KX112

Kawasaki is the only manufacturer to offer a youth motocross bike with a 112cc two-stroke engine in stock trim.Kawasaki

The KX112 is a supermini in stock trim thanks to its 112cc two-stroke engine, and 19-inch front and 16-inch rear wheels. Kawasaki designed this machine to be a supermini racebike you can buy right off the showroom floor that also serves as a model to bridge the gap between an 85cc two-stroke and 250cc four-stroke. Its only changes from 2022–2025 have been cosmetic in the form of different radiator shroud graphics and seat accent color.

Honda CRF150R

Honda’s CRF150R has been around since 2007 and has remained largely the same since then.Honda

Since 2007, Honda has been the only manufacturer with a motocross-focused 150cc four-stroke model in the form of its CRF150R. This is the only kid-sized thumper for MX riding and racing, and it has seen success at the most prestigious amateur race in America—the Loretta Lynn’s AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship. One of the most recent examples was Carson Mumford racing it to top five overall finishes in the Mini Sr 2 and Supermini 2 classes at the 2016 event.

Honda CRF150R Expert

In terms of physical size, the CRF150R Expert is Honda’s largest youth motocrosser.Honda

Also introduced in 2007 was Honda’s CRF150R Expert. Instead of 17-inch front and 14-inch rear wheels like the CRF150R, this machine is outfitted with 19-inch front and 16-inch rear hoops, which increases its claimed seat height by 1.3 inches (34.1 inches compared to the CRF150R at 32.8 inches). Like the CRF150R, Honda has left the CRF150R Expert mostly alone over the course of its life, so those looking for a used one will likely prioritize its condition more than model year.
