Aaron Plessinger's Day At Ironman Motocross | MX 2016

Aaron Plessinger went 8-1 for 2nd overall at round 12.

Aaron Plessinger went 8-1 for 2nd overall at the last round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Series at Ironman Raceway. Aaron a native of Hamilton, Ohio has made a habit of doing good in the state of Indiana over the last couple of years by winning the 250 class last year at Ironman and also a Supercross win at the Indy round. We will take you through Aaron's day from the first laps of timed practice to the podium celebration at Ironman Raceway.

Aaron came out in the first timed practice and turned a fast lap of 2:33.191 for the 5th fastest time of the session. The track was still wet and muddy from the rain on friday morning and the rain that feel saturday morning during the 250 group B practice earlier.Photography by Rob Koy
Aaron considers the Ironman race to be his home race since a lot of his friends and family show up to support him at this event. Aaron got a chance to talk and hang out with them for a few minutes in between the two timed practice sessions. Aaron was all smiles to see his supporters.Photography by Rob Koy
In the 2nd timed practice Aaron turned a slower time of 2:39.219 on the rough track. The ruts got very deep in session two and the riders were struggling in some sections with maintaining their speed as the track was in bad shape for the practice. After the timed practices, the track crew went ahead and scraped the track to make for better racing in the motos. Aaron had the 7th fastest time for the 7th gate pick in moto 1. Aaron didn’t get a great start in moto 1 and was in 10th place after the first lap. Aaron made a couple of passes including getting by his teammate Mitchell Harrison and was in 8th place, a little past the 10-minute mark. Aaron said that he was struggling with his flow and wasn’t smooth at all in moto 1. Here, you can see that a bad start meant that you were covered in mud after the first lap.Photography by Rob Koy
Aaron had to ditch his goggles halfway through the first moto and soldier on to the end of the moto. Aaron was able to hold the 8th place position to the end of the moto. Aaron said that he just went back to the pits and chilled in between the motos and wasn’t going to harp on his 8th place finish and just get ready for moto 2. For moto 2, Aaron said that the team went ahead and stiffened the forks to help on the rougher track.Photography by Rob Koy

Aaron held the lead for almost a lap, but made a small mistake two turns before the finish line and gave up the position to Austin Forkner. Aaron was able to put pressure on Austin for 20 minutes, then Austin made a mistake of his own after the finish line jump and Aaron was able to get the lead back.Photography by Rob Koy
Aaron was able to pull away from Austin, then Cooper Webb got by Austin for 2nd place. Aaron was able to pace Cooper and had over a 12-second lead so he put it on cruise mode to the finish. Here, Aaron takes the outer berm back on the start straight at the end of moto 2.Photography by Rob Koy

Aaron was all smiles on the 250 podium at Ironman Raceway. He was able to forget about a rough moto 1, come back, put his head down in moto 2 and do what he wanted to do all day. At this track the start was the most important part to win in these conditions. Aaron does not have many off season races to go to but may go to Japan and race over there for Yamaha.Photography by Rob Koy
