What Really Happened: 2015 Winter Olympics

The 45th edition of the Thor Winter Olympics is in the books and as usual, it was an eventful week of racing. Each year the Mini O’s puts a huge spotlight on the future stars of our sport, and this year Austin Forkner, Jalek Swoll, Matt LeBlanc, Challen Tennant, Nicholas Romano, and D.J. MacFarlane emerged as the big winners.

This year’s event was blessed with beautiful weather and good, safe racing, and at the end of the week the top performers were rewarded with some pretty cool industry-backed awards. Taking home the Dunlop Silver Tire Award, which is award to the A/Pro rider that accumulates the highest number of points in motocross and supercross, was Team Green standout Austin Forkner, who came away with titles in the 250 A MX, 450 A MX, 450 Pro Sport MX, 250 Pro Sport SX, 250 A SX and 450 A SX classes.

The 2015 Scott Golden Goggle Award, which is awarded to the B or C rider that accumulates the highest number of points in both supercross and motocross, went to Challen Tennant, who was the scourge of the B classes, winning titles in the 250 B MX, the 250 B Limited MX, the 450 B MX, 450 B Limited MX, and 250 B Limited SX classes.

Winning the Fox Bronze Boot Award, given to the Youth rider that accumulates the highest number of points in motocross and supercross, and the Pro Circuit Platinum Pipe Award, awarded to the rider in all divisions that accumulates the highest number of points in motocross and supercross, was Matt LeBlanc, who won seven out of eight of his classes, including titles in the 65 (10-11) SX, 65 (10-11) Limited SX, 85 (9-11) Limited SX, 85 (9-11) SX, 85 (9-11) MX, 65 (10-11) MX, and 65 (10-11) Limited MX classes.

Other notable winners included Nicholas Romano, who claimed a title in the 65 7-9 MX, 65 (7-9) Limited MX and 65 (7-9) Limited SX divisions, Haiden Deegan with a title in the 51 (4-8) Limited SX class, and John Grewe, who won titles in the Senior 45 MX, Senior 40 MX, Vet 35 MX, Senior 45 SX, and Vet 35 SX divisions.

Jalek Swoll dominated the Supermini motocross classes, topping both the Supermini 2 13-16 and the Supermini 1 12-15 divisions. Meanwhile, DJ MacFarlane took a big win in the 250 Pro Sport title in motocross competition.
