GoClear technologies has devised a way for motocrossers to keep our GoPro screens clear, and it's a new application on a proven idea: tear-offs. Available for $29.95, the new tear-offs lends kit for the GoPro Hero POV cameras is exactly what you're picturing: a stack of small, clear film sheets that can be ripped away after you get roosted to provide your GoPro with an unobstructed view of the track. The kit itself includes a clamp-on bracket, two 7-stack tear-off film stacks, an adhesive border (which keeps dirt from getting under the tear-offs), and detailed installation instructions.
Putting the GoClear tear-offs on is not particularly hard, and thankfully the actual video image is not hugely affected by the film(s), although you can tell the difference when there's a stack on there versus when the GoPro case is naked. Our testers have been playing with these for the last few weeks, and so far we've found this to be a pretty handy accessory. The biggest comment we keep hearing is that it's very odd to pull a tear-off that high up on one's head; typically, we yank from the goggles—where we can see the tear-offs—so it takes some fishing around to get a good pull. Similarly, you have to be deliberate to just pull one and not the whole stack. While this isn't the fastest process, it does ensure a clean, unobstructed video view—much better than if you just wipe the screen with a finger.
Check out the video below for an on-board look at the GoClear tear-offs system. You likely won't notice that it's on there as Kris Keefer (our videographer in this demonstration) battles with one of our test riders, but you'll definitely see him yank it at the end.
