The 51Fifty Energy Drink Yamaha team had a rough round at the Phoenix Supercross this past Saturday. Already missing Hayden Mellross due to a first-turn crash at Anaheim 2, teammate Tyler Bowers looked to lead the charge and put in a solid finish for the team.
In the first practice, Tyler was on pace with lead pack and, as he's done each round, progressed further up the board with solid lap times. Heading into the first Qualifier, Tyler jumped out front with the series leaders and was on a charge. In the difficult rhythm section, Tyler cased a triple and was thrown off the front of his bike. Tyler remounted, kick-started his YZ250F, and entered the track for another lap before pulling into the mechanics area.
"It hurt when I landed but the adrenaline was going so I tried to do a few more laps," explained Tyler Bowers. "Each time I would land off the jumps I could just feel something wasn't right."
Tyler would suffer a fracture to the right femur but is optimistic he'll return and be ready when the West Coast series resumes after the break for the Seattle SX.
51FIFTY Energy Drink motto is "Never Give Up"; expect the team to be in Oakland with one, possibly two, riders to fill the boots of Mellross and Bowers.
