Yamaha’s YZ250F is one of two heavily updated 250cc four-stroke motocross bikes in 2024. In addition to an all-new chassis and revised suspension settings, the Tuning Fork brand gave the YZ250F mill a wider cam chain, higher-volume intake, and updated ECU settings.
With a Dunlop D404 street tire mounted on its rear wheel, the 2024 Yamaha YZ250F took its turn on Dirt Rider’s in-house Dynojet 250i rear-wheel dynamometer. When all was said and done, the bLU cRU’s fuel-injected liquid-cooled DOHC four-stroke 250cc single-cylinder engine produced peak figures of 39.2 hp at 13,000 rpm and 17.9 lb.-ft. of torque at 10,200 rpm.
“The YZ250F has a very hard to beat engine package,” test rider Michael Wicker said. “It’s difficult to say power is located toward a particular part of the rpm range as it feels strong, period. Throttle response is very snappy too.”
