Trail Tech TTO Temperature Meter - Dirt Rider Magazine

The trail riding I do challenges a cooling system, so I just grabbed the Trail Tech TTO temp meter that looked like it fit, then headed for the KTM 450 XC-W, cut a straight section of radiator hose and clamped in the sensor. The display unit can be peeled and stuck or bolted down. I installed the unit with little trouble. It was too late for me, but peruse the Trail Tech website before buying. I could have used a radiator-mount sensor that would have installed in seconds and cost $39.95 instead of the $44.95 for the hose-mount. The meter never hiccupped and always gave a solid reading. I discovered there is little difference in coolant temp on a KTM. The XC-W has a thermostat, so the engine gets to near 200 quickly, and generally stays near there in normal use. If you keep a close eye, though, you see it edge upward, and you have enough warning to find open trail before you boil over. The unit also remembers the max temp for the ride until manually reset or until the next time the engine goes above 130 degrees. I was most impressed with the information supplied and the reliability of the display. -Karel Kramer
