Josh Strang claimed his first win of the season in the Kenda Full Gas Sprint Enduro Series with a dominating performance at a rain-soaked round four in Altamont, Tennessee.

The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider won nine of the 13 tests held over the course of the two-day event - six of seven on Saturday in relatively dry conditions and three of six tests during Sunday’s event, which was slippery from all day rain showers.

“I felt like I rode well and the bike worked good, so I was happy with how everything went,” said Strang. “The Cross Test was similar to the grass tracks at Six Days in Europe and I really enjoyed them, it was a good event.”

Daniel Milner, the points lead coming into the event, broke his left fibula during the second test on Saturday and was forced to DNF the event. At the time, the N-FAB/Am Pro Yamaha rider was battling with Strang for first place. Milner told Dirt Rider he was flying back to Australia on Monday where he scheduled surgery for Thursday. “I lost the front end and went down and it felt like my leg just shattered,” said Milner. The Australian off-road star has won two of the four Full Gas Sprint Enduro rounds held so far and says he plans on being back to full speed in time for the ISDE in Spain this coming October.

Second for the weekend went to Russell Bobbitt, who was fresh off a win at the Cherokee National Enduro in Greensboro, Georgia. Bobbitt won a test on Saturday, and followed that up with a test win on Sunday. The FMF/KTM rider was sitting third heading into Sunday’s event, but came out on top of a three-way battle with Jordan Ashburn and Layne Michael to claim the runner-up position. “Ashburn got me by two seconds at the end of Saturday’s event, so I knew I had to pick it up on Sunday,” said Bobbitt. “The conditions were slippery on Sunday and I just tried to ride smooth and stay off the ground and I think that was the key because Layne hit the ground once that I know of.“

Michael edged Ashburn for third, beating the KTM rider by close to 13 seconds after two days of racing. Michael won the previous round in West Virginia and the Coastal Racing Husqvarna rider was happy to be on the podium for a second straight race. “I had a couple of second place finishes to start off Saturday’s event, but I ended up losing about 12 seconds in the fourth test when I just had a bad time,” said Michael. “That put me in a bit of a hole heading into Sunday’s event, but I managed to pick up the pace and get on the podium.”

Ashburn held on for fourth, edging SRT KTM’s Cory Buttrick by two seconds. Meanwhile, Thad DuVall was sixth, but the KR4/Rocky Mountain MC/ATV Husqvarna rider took over the series points lead with the DNF of Milner.

Thad DuVall rode a Husqvarna TC300 instead of his usual FC 350 so he could start getting used to it for this year’s ISDE but since it turned out to be muddy on Sunday he switched back to his 350 four-stroke.
