The FIM World Motocross championship wrapped up with its season with the series finale at Glen Helen Raceway this past weekend. And while newly crowned MXGP World Champion Romain Febvre won the overall in the MXGP division in California, there were plenty of American stories to talk about, like Josh Grant’s final moto win and Jessy Nelson’s sweep of the MX2 class. Dirt Rider magazine had photographer Preston Jordan on the ground to bring us another look at the US GP.

Romain Febvre and Cooper Webb had some nice battles amongst each other in both motos. Webb would finish the day with a 2-3 netting him 3rd on the day, while the MXGP World Champion Febvre would go on to finish with a 1-2, securing himself the overall.Photo by Preston Jordan
It was good to see Dean Ferris back in the states giving Glen Helen a go. Some of you may remember that Ferris came over and rode some supercross here in the US for the Red Bull KTM team, but an injury plagued season ended his hopes at finishing it out. Ferris would finish at Glen Helen with an 18-14 for 18th overall.Photo by Preston Jordan
Davi Millsaps made his debut for the BTO Sports WPS KTM after a shortened stint over at Monster Energy Factory Kawasaki. Millsaps hasn't raced an outdoors series since 2012 when he was with JGR Yamaha, but he looked to be gelling rather well with his new ride. Davi finished the day with a respectable 11th overall.Photo by Preston Jordan
The steep hills at Glen Helen developed some pretty nasty ruts, which made line choice interesting. Here Valentin Guillod perfectly navigates a tough one heading up Glen Helen's infamous Mt. St. Helens.Photo by Preston Jordan
Rockstar Suzuki rider Jason Anderson impressed many with a 4th place finish in the first moto. Due to a bad crash and accredited 27th place in the second moto, he finished 10th overall on the day.Photo by Preston Jordan
Once again Josh Grant proved that he still has what it takes to win on any given day. Grant impressed many and battled up front in both motos, ending the day with 3rd place in the first moto, a hard-fought second moto win, and a 2nd place overall.Photo by Preston Jordan
Belgian Yamaha rider Julien Lieber rode solidly and finished 9th in the first moto. Unfortunately, a DNS for the second moto hurt his chances of a top 10 overall. Lieber finished 15th on the day.Photo by Preston Jordan
What can we say? Jessy Nelson was on a whole different level at Glen Helen this past weekend, dominating the MX2 class and coming away with a 1-1 for 1st overall. His day couldn't have gone much better.Photo by Preston Jordan
It was also good to see Max Anstie back in the US riding the somewhat familiar terrain of Glen Helen. Although his title hopes were dashed earlier in the season, Anstie still came home with a 3rd overall in the MX2 World Championships this year. He finished the USGP with a 4-8 for 5th overall.Photo by Preston Jordan
Factory KTM's Marvin Musquin stepped up to the big bike for this weekends race, choosing to race the 450 over the 350. Marvin looked pretty good on his new machine this weekend, but he still has a few things to get worked out. We look forward to seeing him in the 450 class here in the US next year. He went 10-26 for 16th overall on the day.Photo by Preston Jordan
The USGP was supposed to be Ryan Villopoto's final race of his career, but unfortunately a crash at the Trentino GP in Italy led to injuries that led to an early retirement. We wish RV the best and hope he enjoys his life outside of racing. Villopoto goes out as a legend in the sport.Photo by Preston Jordan
Just last weekend Thomas Convington won his first MXGP race and his first MXGP overall. This weekend he had a little bit of bad luck on his side with crashes and having to work through traffic. He would finish out the day with a 13th overall.Photo by Preston Jordan
