Moto XXX Round 15 Race Report - Seattle, Washington - Dirt Rider Magazine Online

For the second weekend in a row, racers and fans were welcomed to the track with uncharacteristically sunny and warm weather. Qwest field in Seattle, Washington, was the site for round 15 of the 16 race series and with a dry track the racing was sure to be close.By the end of the first practice session the ruts had already begun to develop and the rider's focus changed from putting together fast laps to simply trying to make it through the sessions without going down. Both Josh Summey and Kyle Lewis attacked the track and put down some of their best qualifying times of the year. When the sessions ended it was Summey qualifying in 10th place and Lewis not far back in 18th.Based on their qualifying times both riders were placed into heat race one and proceeded to line up to the far inside with only the lone CR250 separating the teammates. When the gate dropped, Summey and Lewis got out quickly and were in good position heading down the long start straight. Lewis would edge just ahead of Summey as the pack entered the first turn. As the riders jumped through the first rhythm section it was Lewis in second place. Upon the completion of lap one, Lewis was still up front holding down the third position while Summey had worked his up to 11th. Josh would continue to weave his way through traffic on his way to a seventh place finish just a few spots behind Lewis in fourth. For the main event both riders again headed to the far inside, this time lining up right beside one another. Despite the effort put forth by the Dirt Wurx crew, the track was extremely rutted out and had already claimed numerous riders throughout the evening. It would take 20 smart laps to earn a top finish and that was what the Moto XXX duo was planning on. The gate fell and once again both riders got off the line well. However, as the start straight narrowed both riders were forced to back off and file into the pack heading into turn one. As the riders completed the first lap, Summey was in the 11th position with Lewis in 16th. Kyle was riding well and working his way up when an untimely mistake in a rutted rhythm section sent him flying off the track. Uninjured, Lewis rejoined the race but would be almost an entire lap down. Summey continued to put in strong laps battling with factory riders and at the half way point sat in 9th position. Over the next 10 laps, Josh would hold off the other riders en-route to an impressive 9th place finish. After a valiant effort, Lewis would ultimately cross the line 20th.Next weekend the series heads to "America's playground" for the season finale. Las Vegas, Nevada and Sam Boyd stadium will play host to the 16th and 18th rounds of the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross series and the Amp'd Mobile World Supercross GP, respectively. Even though the series champions have already been crowned there are still valuable points up for grabs and a prime opportunity for riders to improve their final overall position.
