Monster Energy MX Crossover Series - Race Results - Dirt Rider Magazine

Monster Energy MX Crossover Series Opener ResultsCORONA, Calif., (May 22, 2007) - Monster Energy's 2007 MX Crossover Series' opener was the biggest ever, featuring a 43-man gate of action sports athletes and industry media members this past weekend to help kick off the racing festivities for the Outdoor Nationals opener at Prairie City SVRA, aka "Hangtown."And when the dust cleared, the Monster flowed and the bench racing shifted into high gear it was the mountain athletes (skiers & snowboarders) that took it to the BMXers and skaters in what's become a traditional action sports/motocross celebration the weekend of the Hangtown National, also sponsored by Sessions, Spy, Dunlop and Throttle Jockey/Graphics Lab.Leading the charge of action sports athletes on the demanding Hangtown track was freeskier K.C. Deane (Truckee, Calif.). Deane used a 1-2 moto performance to hold off last year's winner, snowboarder Ian Price (3-1), for the overall victory."This year the field was the most talented we've ever had and he (Deane) definitely earned it," said Price. Added Deane: "That was definitely a blast, and I'm looking forward to the next round at Glen Helen (Sept. 7)."Rounding out the podium was snowboarder Chris Roach. The overall results from the first round of the Monster Energy MX Crossover Series were:In the Java Monster Media Throw Down it was Dirt Rider's Jimmy Lewis taking top honors. Lewis was joined on the podium by fellow Primedia editorial staff members Chris Denison and Dave Donatoni. And in the highly anticipated Monster Energy "Creature Feature" MX showdown, which featured a friendly grudge battle between Guinness Book of World Records distance jumping record holders Ryan "The One" Capes (310 feet/motorcycle) and Paul Thacker (245 feet/snowmobile), it was Capes getting the upper hand."I told you so," said Capes laughing."Yeah, we'll see what happens when we run it back on sleds this winter," added Thacker, no doubt foreshadowing an impending on-mountain battle at some exotic location in the snow between the two Monster Energy superstars. The fan-friendly event culminated on Sunday with a massive autograph signing session featuring all the competitors at the Monster Energy compound located on the manufacturer's midway. Making special guest appearances to sign some autographs and take in Sunday's racing were U.S. Ski Team member Daron Rahlves and pro skateboard legend Steve Caballero.Again, a special shout out to Sessions, Spy, Dunlop and Throttle Jockey/Graphics Lab for sponsoring the event.Monster Energy supports the sport.
