Moto XXX Round 14 Race Report - Detroit Michigan - Dirt Rider Magazine

After a well deserved two week break, the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross series got back underway in sunny and warm, yes sunny and warm, Detroit, Michigan. The Detroit round is often one of the coldest events of the year but 2007 was definitely an exception. Temperatures in the 70s and clear blue skies welcomed back the riders and teams for round 14.Josh Summey and Kyle Lewis both qualified well and lined up two spots away from each other in heat race one. As the gate dropped, Lewis got the better jump and rounded turn one sitting in eighth with Summey a few spots back in 11th. Lewis slipped back to ninth while Summey moved into 10th and the teammates completed the next few laps side by side. Shortly after the half way mark, Summey put a pass on Lewis to take over the ninth position. Lewis didn't give up and proceeded to show a wheel to Summey a few times over the next lap. Ultimately, Summey would cross the line ninth and secure the final transfer spot while Lewis would finish 11th.The LCQ got under way as Lewis grabbed a sixth place start. The track was extremely slippery, tough to pass on, and with only six short laps to work with the riders had their work cut out for them. Lewis moved into the top five briefly before ultimately crossing the line in eighth position.Josh Summey lined up toward the outside of the start line for the Supercross main event and knew he needed to get a good start as the track was tough to pass on. Summey had a good reaction time and was in a good position heading down the start straight before being driven high going around turn one. As the pack leapt down the first rhythm section, Summey sat in 20th position. Immediately he began picking off riders and by the end of lap one was in 17th place. One short lap later, Summey had moved into the 14th position and was setting up the next two riders in front of him. By the half way mark, Josh had worked his way up to 12th place and continued to put in fast times. On lap 19, Summey got by another rider bumping himself up to 11th place where he would finish. Following the race, Summey commented; "I wanted to be sure and earn some good points tonight, especially after what happened in Dallas. The break was nice and I'm looking forward to moving up even higher in the overall championship points." Currently, Summey sits 14th overall and with two more rounds is poised to close in on the top 10.Next weekend, Seattle, Washington and Qwest Field play host to round 15 and the penultimate round of the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross series. Seattle is known for being notoriously wet but with any luck the sunny weather will follow the series west and make for some excellent racing.
