Grommet Years - Replacing Rubber Grommets - Dirt Rider Magazine

By Tom Moen/KTM

The radiators on 1998 to 2007 KTM models are mounted with 6mm bolts and small washers through rubber grommets in the sides of the radiator. The washer has a pretty small diameter for the job. Eventually the grommets are cut through by the movement of the radiators, and the grommets must be replaced. Plus, the radiator can be torn right off the bike in a crash. Don't be tempted to use a larger washer. KTM made the radiator mounts to pull loose and save the radiators from more severe crash damage. Just replace the grommets every year or so, and you won't have a problem.Got a Trail Tip? Send it and some pictures to karel.kramer@sorc.com, subject: Trail Tips.
