Josh Demuth Steals Night One Victory In Wilkes Barre - Dirt Rider Magazine

AURORA, Ill. (March 13, 2009) - The penultimate round of the 2009 AMA Arenacross Series kicked-off on Friday night at Wachovia Arena in Wilkes Barre, Pa. After an exciting pair of main events, the raucous crowd saw a pair of familiar faces atop the podium as Arenacross legend, Mahindra Tractors/Tuf Honda's Josh Demuth, of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Spinechillers/Suzuki City Suzuki's Willy Browning, of Rushville, Ohio defeated all their competitors to sit atop the AMA Arenacross and AMA Arenacross Lites podiums'.Demuth was able to grab a much-needed victory in what could best be described as an up and down season for the two-time AMA Arenacross Series champion. A good start played a key role in Demuth's Friday-night victory as he was able to take advantage of a good opportunity and use his vast arenacross racing experience to put together 25 strong laps."It really feels great to get back on top of the podium," said Demuth. "It's been a little while since I was last up here but a good start really helped tonight. I really want to thank Tuf Honda for all of their help."Demuth's teammate, points leader Jeff Gibson, of Westerville, Ohio, came home in a solid runner-up position to extend his points lead over closest competitor Brock Sellards, of Sherodsville, Ohio. Triple Effect Kawasaki's Gray Davenport, of Lehi, Utah, rounded out the podium in third. The AMA Arenacross Lites main event was equally exciting as Browning continued to have success in what has been an impressive year for the Ohio native. He fended off GPF/Babbitt's Kawasaki's Tyler Medaglia, of Ottawa, Canada, and Sunrise Cycles Yamaha's Devon Pilkington, of Virginia Beach, Va., to grab his third win of the 2009 AMA Arenacross Series season and his first of the Eastern Regional Championship. The victory also helped Browning pull to a 20-point lead over Team Green House of Kawasaki's Justin Berry, of Edmond, Okla., with just one race remaining.Gibson now holds a 46-point lead over Sellards in the AMA Arenacross standings while reigning champion Chad Johnson, of Rhinelander, Wis., sits in third. If Gibson can earn six points over Sellards in tomorrow night's main event, he will capture the 2009 AMA Arenacross Series Championship.Night two of the Wilkes Barre Arenacross continues tomorrow at 7 p.m. from the Wachovia Arena.AMA Arenacross Class Results (Wilkes Barre, Pa.)
