Brock Sellards Captures First Win Of 2009 AMA Arenacross Season In Sacramento - Dirt Rider Magazine

AURORA, Ill. (February 21, 2009) - The AMA Arenacross Series reached the halfway point of its three round West Coast swing at Arco Arena in Sacramento, Calif., and after an exciting 25-lap main event, Triple Effect Kawasaki's Brock Sellards, of Sherodsville, Ohio broke through for his first win of the 2009 season. In the always competitive AMA Arenacross Lites class, Reynard Modifications Suzuki's Cory Green, of Nowata, Okla., outlasted his competition to capture the win in the second round of the Western Regional Championship. After an up and down season, Sellards overcame his competitors to reach the top step of the podium after a lengthy drought. Spinechillers/Storm Lake Honda's Nathan Skaggs, of Chillicothe, Ohio, grabbed the holeshot and led through the first half of the main, but Sellards persevered to take over the top spot."I want to thank Charlie and Mary Lee from Triple Effect Kawasaki," said Sellards. "Some people thought I was too old, but I showed them I can still do it. I want to thank the fans for coming out tonight because they are the ones support us."Skaggs would make a late-race mistake and drop one more position, allowing new Babbitt's Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Codi Adams, of Batavia, Ohio, to grab the runner-up spot for his best career finish."(Nathan) Skaggs rode well," explained Adams. "He had a little bobble in the whoops and I was able to take advantage of it. I was just trying to ride smooth and stay in the top three."While Skaggs brought home the final spot on the podium, the race also marked a sweep of the top four positions by Ohio riders as points leader Jeff Gibson, of Westerville, Ohio, finished fourth aboard his Mahindra Tractors/Tuf Honda. In the AMA Arenacross Lites class, Cory Green was able to capture the second round of the Western Regional Championship by grabbing the holeshot and leading every step of the way. Last week's winner Tyler Medaglia, of Ottawa, Canada, brought home a strong runner-up finish aboard his GPF Babbitt's Kawasaki while MDK Speed Equipment Honda's Tiger Lacy, of Wolf Creek, Ore., finished third. The AMA Arenacross Series heads to Reno, Nev. next weekend to the Live Stock Events Center for the final round of the West Coast swing.
