CH Racing Husqvarna Factory Enduro Team 2008
World Enduro Championship '08 - Round 8, Mende, France, 11-12.10.2008The final round of the '08 World Enduro Championship, the GP of Europe staged in Mended, France, brought mixed fortunes for the CH Racing Husqvarna team as enduro rookie Antoine Meo ended his first season of international enduro competition with two podium results in the Enduro 2 class while Enduro 3 title hopeful Seb Guillaume's event ended in disappointment following a disastrous opening extreme test on day one. Claiming the team's best result was Enduro Junior class rider Marc Bourgeois who topped the EJ results on day one and would likely have done the same again on day two were it not for a derailed chain mid-way through the technically demanding enduro test. For Guillaume, who held second in the E3 points standings coming into the eighth and final round of the season, the GP of Europe effectively ended before it had a chance to start. On the very first extreme test of the event Seb's bike took in a large amount of water, which not only spoiled his first test but also his event. Losing three minutes as a result of having drowned his bike Seb's hopes of victory were ended. Placing 12th at the end of the day Seb's hopes of finishing either first or second in the E3 world championship also ended. Following a sixth place result on day two Seb eventually placed third in the E3 series standings.Wanting to end his first season of full-time WEC competition with good results Antoine Meo did just that as he placed a creditable third on day one behind Juha Salminen and Johnny Aubert. Enjoying the challenging French event Antoine went one better on day two and matched his best ever WEC result with second behind Juha Salminen. In finishing on the podium on both days Antoine again confirmed that he is one of the WEC's brightest young talents. In the Enduro 1 class Bartosz Oblucki rode Husqvarna's TE250 to two sixth pace results. After a difficult injury affected season Oblucki rode well on both days and ended '08 in 11th in the final Enduro 1 world championship classification. Bringing his '08 season to a positive close Marc Bourgeois returned to the top of the Enduro Junior podium on day one and looked certain to make it two wins at the final round of the championship. Disappointingly for Marc a derailed chain dropped him to fifth on day two.Seb Guillaume: "It's been a weekend for me. I'm so disappointed. On the first extreme test I drowned my bike in a stupid man-made water section, which did nothing apart from get riders wet and fill engines with water. I took three minutes of penalties, so that was the end of my hopes of winning the world championship. I found it really hard to concentrate after that. I was riding well on the motocross and extreme test, but I crashed too many times in the enduro test. I really wanted to end the year with a good second day but again I crashed in the enduro test. It's a very disappointing end to the season."Antoine Meo: "Day one was pretty good. For the first time this season I was close to both Johnny and Juha, which I was really pleased about. I had a good day with not too many mistakes. I knew that Johnny wouldn't be pushing too hard on day two because all he really needed to do was finish to win the E2 world title. I wanted to push hard to finish second, which is what I managed to do. I learned a lot on the enduro test. Before I always struggled a little bit on the enduro test, but this weekend I worked out how hard to push. I'm really pleased with the way my first year in enduro and with Husqvarna has gone. I'm really looking forward to the indoor races now and next year's world championship."Bartosz Oblucki: "It's been a pretty good event for me. It's been tough but I finished both days with out too many problems, so I'm pleased with that. The first day went well but I had a couple of slow tests on day two."Marc Bourgeois: "The first day was great for me. I felt a lot stronger on my bike and the conditions suited me well. Winning the first day was great. I didn't have any problems. But on day two my chain came off on the enduro test and I lost 40 to 50 seconds. That stopped me from winning, which was disappointing. But it was good to show that after my accident I am back to my good speed."
