Knight Claims Round One Of AMA/Maxxis National EnduroCross Triple Crown - Dirt Rider Magazine

Denver, CO. September 29, 2007. David Knight wins round one of the 2007 AMA/Maxxis EnduroCross Triple Crown in front of a sold-out crowd in Denver.A capacity crowd at the National Western Complex in Denver, Colorado witnessed an incredible show as KTM-mounted David Knight took the victory over a stacked field of the top off-road motorcycle riders in the world. John Dowd, Mike Lafferty, Ricky Dietrich, David Pearson, Damon Huffman, Geoff Aaron and Ty Davis were among the nearly 200 riders that competed on the gnarly course littered with logs, boulders, sand pits and even a water crossing. In the end it was 20-year-old Trials rider Keith Wineland that finished second to Knight. Wineland, a protg of 10-time National Trials Champion Geoff Aaron, rode a Montesa Trials bike to finish second ahead of former World Supercross Champion Damon Huffman. Defending EnduroCross Champion John Dowd struggled with crashes and failed to qualify, missing the LCQ by one rider. The victory is the first step for Knight to win the Motorcycle Mechanic's Institute's $50,000 Triple Crown bonus - if he can win next weekend in Oklahoma and then at the final in Las Vegas on November 17th.In Denver, Knight was a man on a mission determined to take the win..."The $50,000 bonus is a great incentive but to become the 2007 EnduroCross champion is why I will be racing in both Oklahoma and Las Vegas," claimed Knight.Round two of the AMA/Maxxis National EnduroCross series takes place on October 6 in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
