Girlyz Pro Team Takes On Budds Creek - Dirt Rider Magazine

Girlyz Race Team Takes on Budds CreekWMA Round ThreeAlthough the results from the Girlyz Pro Moto Team at Budds Creek may have appeared to be a little ho hum, the event was anything but that for the Girylz Race Team and the spectators who witnessed an exciting round three of the WMA championship, June 16, 2007.Girlyz Pro Rider Alisa Nix came in 16th in Moto One after coming back from a crash in the second lap that left her stuck in the mud. This didn't stop her from going after moto two with a vengeance.Moto Two was a race to remember as Nix delivered an epic battle for the lead with Fox Rider Jessica Patterson. They had the crowd going wild as they diced for the top spot. Nix got the action started passing Patterson on turn two after Patterson flew out of the gate in front of her and grabbed the hole shot. Patterson took the lead back a few corners later.Fox Rider, Patterson was unable to shake the tenacious youngster as the race progressed. Nix showed the maturity and patience she has developed this year riding smart and aggressive, studying, stalking and sticking right with the veteran champ. Nix was the only other female rider, besides Jessica Patterson and Tara Geiger, to consistently clear the big uphill step up in the back of the track setting the three riders apart from the rest of the pack. Nix clearly showed she has what it takes to run at the front and be one of the dominating forces in the 2007 championship fight. Unfortunately, at about the ten minute mark, Nix went down when she lost the back end flat tracking the uphill right hand sweeper by the tower. Undeterred, she got back on the bike and managed to work her way back to fifth place by the end of the moto, salvaging important championship points.Girlyz Pro Rider Sarah Whitmore battled with Brazilian Fox Rider Mariana Balbi for fourth in Moto One. For six laps they gave the crowd another memorable battle until Whitmore was finally relegated to fifth place by a confident Balbi who made the pass stick charging hard on the inside. It was Balbi 4th and Whitmore 5th at the checkered flag. In Moto Two, Whitmore had a first turn crash which put her at the back of the pack but she put her head down and worked her way back through the field to finish ninth by the end of the moto. With the championship at the halfway mark, Alisa Nix is in third place with three races to go. Nix was 2nd in last year's championship and continues to show improvement with every race clearly proving her dominance as a serious contender. Whitmore is in seventh but will most likely improve her standings in the next round in Colorado. The WMA racers once again surprised the crowd. Many of the spectators as well as the men's pro riders and teams stayed to watch the action. They were not disappointed and were on their feet with excitement as the girls gave them a level of racing they will not soon forget. Autograph sessions at the WMA booth were extremely popular and the WMA racers continued to show their professionalism, dedication, and ability to be positive role models for tomorrow's young female racers. Katie had surgery on the femur but is already back on the bike. This tough rider rode the practice motos at the Mammoth races last weekend to test out her leg but decided to play it safe and save herself for the WMA Championship. She is bicycling and training as well as riding her home MX track. The popular #98 will be back for round four of the WMA series in Colorado July 21.Also returning to the action in Colorado will be Girlyz Pro Racer Lindsey Jelitto, a seasoned racer who will add even more excitement and competition to the Girlyz Pro line up. Aubriana Dunn will be out the rest of the season, requiring a second surgery on her shoulder but continues with the Girlyz Pro Team as rider support.
