Team FL Racing Signs Ken Faught to Ride Nitrous-Powered GSX-R750 - News - Dirt Rider Magazine

Team FL Racing has signed three-time land speed record holder Ken Faught to its Makita Suzuki-backed racing program. Faught will attempt to become the first rider to surpass the 200mph in the 750cc class on the legendary salt flats in Bonneville this August during Speed Week."Ken is helping us develop our 750cc program," said Rod Falkner of Dumonde Tech Racing Oils. "He's really good at testing and giving us reliable feedback, and he's real comfortable at speeds above 200mph.""Land Speed Racing is very addictive," said Faught of Corona, California. "There's nothing like getting on a bike and holding it wide open for five straight miles on the salt. We never really get a 100 percent traction at the rear wheel, and it can be a handful when you hit the nitrous button, so you really have to stay focused all the time.""Faught will cover three miles in about 52 or 53 seconds," said Paul Livingston of Spider Grips. "That's really fast when you consider how thin the air is at the actual race course. If all goes according to plan, Ken should be able to put himself into the 200mph Club which is a very elite group of people."The bike Faught will pilot is a 20th Anniversary GSX-R 750 assembled by FL Racing with bodywork designed by Catalyst Composits. Aerodynamics plays a huge role in this project, and the team has even incorporated an external power system to charge the nitrous oxide system and other high-tech performance gadgetry."We've actually incorporated an 18-volt rechargeable Makita power-pack into the body work of the bike," said Livingston. "It hangs beneath the rear bodywork where it is easily accessible, yet it won't disrupt airflow over the bike and rider."Team FL Racing is backed by Suzuki, Makita, Spider Grips, Dumonde Tech Racing Oils, Race Tech, High Stakes, Pit Bull Products, Pole Position Raceway, Studio 38, Catalyst Composites, Bridgestone Tires, Sprocket Specialists, Micron Exhaust, NJK leathers, DC Shoe, Brosel Design, K&N; Filters, NGK Spark Plugs, Hyperpro, Power Commander, Sports Vue, Tifosi Optics, and IHI Turbo.
