Race Results from the 2004 GFI Lake Elsinore Grand Prix - News - Dirt Rider Magazine

Bonds Wins at the 2004 GFI Elsinore Grand PrixThe 2004 Lake Elsinore GP attracted 1,536 entries this past weekend making it one of the largest dirt bike events in the country. The classic event gives racers the opportunity to race down the same city streets that Malcolm Smith blazed down in On Any Sunday. The Elsinore GP originally ran from 1969 to 1972 before being shut down, but former factory motocrosser and GFI racing founder Goat Breker revived the event in 1996 and it has run every year since.
Kawasaki's Bobby Bonds was the big winner for the weekend, topping the 250 Pro class on Saturday despite a first lap crash, and dominating the Mushman 100, the hundred-mile race that caps off the weekend's activities with 26 laps around the 4-mile course. Newly crowned National Hare & Hound Champion Destry Abbott finished second in the 100 followed by Kawasaki's 16-year old Pro motocross prospect Ryan Villopoto with a very impressive 3rd overall.
