LAS VEGAS (August 20, 2003) - Clear Channel Entertainment's Motor Sports division today announced that the third annual Amateur Arenacross World Finals will take place during the Maxxis U.S. Open at the MGM Grand Garden Arena October 12."The Amateur Arenacross World Finals has been a very successful program, allowing riders from across the country a destination to compete head-to-dead to crown a Champion," said Mike Kidd, vice president, arenacross, Clear Channel Entertainment - Motor Sports. "With the event held at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena in conjunction with the Maxxis U.S. Open, it makes this event even more prestigious."The Amateur Arenacross World Finals gives the world's top amateur motocross racers the opportunity to compete in one of the world's most luxurious venues and on the same track as the likes of Ricky Carmichael, Chad Reed, Mike LaRocco and more. Qualifying for the finals began in November of 2002 at the National and Regional Arenacross Series and continued through March of 2003. Riders from Canada and the U.S. competed in one of six regions with the top three qualifiers from each region in 16 classes qualifying to have the opportunity to race for a world championship. The strength of this event in its first season made it a mainstay at the Maxxis U.S. Open. Additionally, the immense economic impact from bringing friends and families of the riders from these 37 states and eight Canadian Provinces to the Las Vegas community is reaping some astounding support."With this event being held in October and the last arenacross qualifier ran in March, riders have a long time to think about the event," said Kidd. "This single race shows the riders ability to compete under a great deal of pressure."The Maxxis U.S. Open, founded in 1998 is an invitation-only motocross race held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, featuring the world's top supercross/motocross racers in the world competing for $300,000 - the single largest payout in motorcycle racing.
