At High Point, the fourth round of the 2017 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, we tracked Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac through his day. Things started out rough for the racer but finished up better than the day had started. Check out Eli’s race day:

Eli practices his starts in the first timed practice. New this year to the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Series is a 5 minute practice start session before the timed practice starts. This gives the teams a chance on just working on their starts and not lose time during the timed practice.

Eli takes the inside rut of the second turn. The track was ripped deep and very muddy from the rain overnight and the practice times were not going to be good so Eli was searching for different line to be prepared of the second practice that would be a lot dryer. Eli turned a 2:20.678 for his best lap on the last lap of practice. This was good enough for 2nd overall in the 450 class.Photo by Rob Koy

The High Point track crew prepped the track in between the practice sessions and made the track a lot better for the 2nd timed practice. Here Eli goes to the outside rut to keep his momentum up and better his time. Eli was able to run his fastest time of 2:07.314 on lap 2 for the 4th fastest time of the session which gave him the 4th gate pick going into moto 1.Photo by Rob Koy

After falling on the first lap in moto 1 Eli remounted back on his bike in the 36th position. Eli was able to move up to 21st on the 4th lap and 16th on lap 9 which was at the halfway point of the moto. Eli seemed not to have that Tomac mojo we have seen in the past and was stuck in the 14th to 12th position to the finish of the race.

Eli was happy with his performance in moto 2, but you can tell by his demeanor that the weekend didn’t go as planned. Eli sits in 3rd place in the championship with 144 points, 11 points behind Blake Baggett. On to Muddy Creek next week.
