Star Racing Supercross Round 14 Race Report

DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha - St. Louis Supercross Press Release

St. Louis, MO. (April 9, 2011) This past Saturday the AMA Lites East coast Supercross series headed to the St. Louis' Edward Jones Dome for the penultimate round. Nearly 60,000 fans were treated to a technical track that had great soil, and was very challenging to say the least. DNA Shred Stix/ Star Racing/Yamaha got the day started fantastically, with #25 Ryan Sipes, and rookie #533 Gannon Audette standing high up in the charts in 1st and 13th at the conclusion of Timed-qualifying practice.

With both NCY backed riders slated into Heat #2, it was Sipes who pushed himself into 2nd early on. On lap two, Audette acquired the 4th position with his sheer speed and went on racing aggressively right till the finish. Sipes held in convincing fashion 2nd right till the end, but a mistake regulated him back to 3rd at the finish.

The all important Main Event set out, with 15 laps ahead of the teammates, after lap one Sipes sat in the top three in the 2nd position, while Audette held 5th. Still wanting more, Sipes climbed up to 1st on lap two, but then on the very next lap he filed back into 2nd. Challenging for the lead on many occasions up until the halfway mark, where a mistake put him in the clutches of the third place competitor. Mid race Audette had fallen back to 8th, however he kept the pressure on to hopefully reach the top five. Upfront and battling off relentless attacks to overtake him, Ryan continued on with consistent lap times straight through all the way to the checkers. Another valiant ride by Sipes helped him take home a solid 2nd, and his fourth podium finish of the year. In the end, Audette made his way into 6th with three laps to go and scored his best finish of the season.
