Houston Round 13 Race Report

DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing teammates Josh Grant and Kyle Chisholm finished 10th and 11th respectively in Houston Saturday night at Reliant Stadium for round 13 of the 2012 AMA Supercross Season, an FIM World Championship season. After unfortunately having to sit out seven rounds this season due to injury, Grant's 10th place finish gives him his first top-10 finish of the season since returning from the sidelines two rounds ago and a boost of confidence heading into the last four races of the season.

Leading up to the SX Main, Chisholm finished his SX Group A first qualifying practice 10th fastest with a lap time of 48.776. Grant, who was also in SX Group A finished his first qualifying practice 18th fastest with a lap time of 50.404. In the final SX Group A qualifying practice, both riders picked up time and speed with Chisholm finishing the final session 7th quickest with a lap time of 47.542. Grant finished the final qualifying session 15th quickest with a lap time of 49.020.

Those times put Chisholm eighth fastest overall and Grant 18th fastest overall with both teammates in SX Heat 1. Both riders put together solid Heat races with Chisholm finishing fifth after gaining two spots from seventh in the closing laps. Grant found himself in the 10th position for a majority of the Heat race but battled it out climbing one spot to ninth before the checkered flag waved to solidify two entries in the SX Main for the DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing team.

Chisholm's 11th place finish in the SX Main keeps him 12th in series points with 116, twelve points outside of the top-10. With Grant's 10th place finish, he moves up one spot to 23rd in series points. The DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing team has an off weekend coming up before returning to action in New Orleans for round 14 on April 14.
