The 2016 AMSOIL Arenacross season had their second stop in the Baltimore Royal Farms Arena Friday and Saturday night. Team Babbitt’s/ Monster Energy/ AMSOIL Kawasaki’s Gavin Faith came into the weekend as the 2016 AMSOIL Arenacross points leader.
With two incredible nights of racing that saw Chris Blose win the Overall Main Event on Friday night securing the second position in the series points race and Gavin Faith maintaining a slim one point lead heading into night two the intensity was at an all time high. In Main event number one on Saturday night Team Babbitt’s/Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki rider Jacob Hayes pulled the holeshot ahead of teammate Chris Blose and Woodstock /TZR KTM’s Travis Sewell. Hayes maintained a healthy lead until a red flag on lap nine resulting in a single file restart. When racing resumed Hayes raced at the top of his game maintaining the lead through the checkered flag. As a result of his main event one win Hayes was tasked with selecting the starting order inversion. With the help of an enthusiastic audience Hayes selected the briefcase containing the zero allowing him first gate choice.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna presented by FMC and OTSFF rider Kyle Regal battled his way through a congested first turn to pull out a holeshot and take off to an early lead with Gavin Faith in tow. Faith closed in on Regal by lap six and made the pass to take over the lead in the challenging whoop section. Hayes charged hard to the front after a mid-pack start and worked his way into second place by lap twelve. On the final lap, when it appeared that Faith had the checkers in his sights a crash in the last turn took him out of the lead and gave Hayes the lead for the win.
With his 1-1 performance on the night Hayes now sits third place in championship points standing just four points from Chris Blose who is the current series points leader and only one point behind second place Gavin Faith. Action resumes next Friday and Saturday night from The PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania, January 22-23.
