Engine

The YZ85 engine now features a Yamaha Power Valve System (YPVS) designed to deliver a broad, tractable power across the rev range without losing peak power at high rpm to improve drivability and reduce the need for frequent shifting. Designed to match with the new YPVS engine is a new expansion chamber that optimizes exhaust gas flow for enhanced power delivery, especially in the low-end and midrange.

A new cylinder head and longer connecting rod are designed to work together and boost the compression ratio for enhanced power output. The transmission has been revised as well and increases the width of selected gears to provide better gear engagement and smoother shifts. Lastly, a new crankcase design features a spacer-style reed-valve intake for improved gas flow.

Suspension

A KYB 36mm inverted cartridge fork graces the YZ85 and features new one-piece outer tubes and updated settings designed to offer enhanced performance across a range of conditions and rider abilities. The YZ85 also comes with new lower fork guards that have a more modern styling.

Chassis

Revisions to the chassis include a redesigned swingarm that has a new composite chain guide and updated chain adjusters for easier maintenance. Another change on the YZ85 is the new stiffer front brake line designed to improve braking feel, while the new wave-style brake discs offer improved self-cleaning and cooler-running performance.

The final changes made for 2019 include new four-position-adjustable handlebar mounts and taper-style handlebar that allow the rider to adjust the handlebar position to suit their size and preferences. Lastly, the YZ85 now comes with Dunlop MX3S tires.

The 2019 Yamaha YZ85 will be available in Team Yamaha Blue and will arrive at Yamaha dealers this month for $4,599.
