Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo claimed his first victory of the 2019 AMA Supercross season at round 2 inside State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. He grabbed the holeshot, led all 16 laps, and now sits second in the point standings heading into Anaheim 2.

“Last week, we had a little mishap, and it just seemed to string into a couple mistakes,” Cianciarulo said. “That really bummed me out because in the off-season, I went to work with Nick Wey and the whole team and just really kind of took a step back and changed some things in my program. You know, I’m really tired of being the guy who just has ‘potential.’ You hate to just leave so much on the table. I’ve sacrificed pretty much everything in my life to get to this point. It feels so good to get a win early in the season. We’re right where we want to be. We couldn’t be happier.”

Monster Energy/Yamalube/Star/Yamaha Racing’s Colt Nichols finished in second place and retains the point leader’s red plate heading into Anaheim 2.

“The bike was great. It felt really good all day. We made a few changes to the suspension before the night program and that helped a lot. The track was just so dry and you had to be really patient. I was trying not to rush everything, but sometimes I kind of rushed it and made a few little mistakes. That’s all right though. I still salvaged a second, so I’m really happy to leave with the point lead and will get ready for next weekend.”

Shane McElrath

Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Shane McElrath put his 250 SX-F in second place at the start and dropped to third around the halfway point, where he remained for the remainder of the race to finish in third place for the second week in a row.

“I felt good on the bike all day, it’s just the track was really intense,” McElrath said. “It was really fast and one little mistake in one of these long rhythms, and I couldn’t really get it back. So I’m a little bummed just in some of the choices I made, but the main thing is I’m healthy. I’m happy to be up here, but we need to be a little better if we want this number one plate.”
