Monster Energy/Yamalube/Star/Yamaha Racing’s Colt Nichols led every lap of the 2019 AMA Supercross season opener inside Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, to grab his first 250SX class main event win of his career. Nichols heads into the second round with the point leader’s red plate.

“It’s really an indescribable feeling to win at A1,” Nichols said. “The conditions were far from perfect, but I was able to stay focused and ride my laps to take the win. [It felt like] the longest race of my life. My mechanic gave me five to go, four to go, three to go. You’re kind of talking to yourself a little bit to get through it. I just tried to stay consistent. I really didn’t know how big of a lead I had and who was in second at the time, so just tried to keep the focus forward. I knew if I tried to relax a little too much, I’d probably make a big mistake and crash. So I just kind of tried to keep it moving and it ended up working out for me.”
