At an airplane themed press launch in San Diego, California, Scott gear made the jump from goggles to full-line gear. Now intending to dress riders from head to toe, the most popular goggle company is looking for a bright future in moto gear. Most shocking was the fact that Scott was launching an all-new boot, much more conventional than the love-it-or-hate-it Genius boot, which seems to have been a second strike in Scott's boot history. And from the looks and feel of the new boots design and construction, there shouldn't be any getting used to new technologies or materials since both the 250 and 450 (the moniker for either more entry level or high end) boots are very standard and highly styled with Scott's new logo.Obviously helmets were a logical extension of the brand and these lids have been showing for a little while now with different styles and colors. The carbon helmet was very light! The gear selection is pretty extensive with the two lines coming in a variety of styles and color ways of those styles, definitely a look to fit every taste. The less technical 250 line and the more featured 450 line both use extensive venting and tough material like leather in the high wear areas. And for the off-roader they have an Adventure series of more weather resistant and pocket-clad gear as well. Also in the line is a series of chest protectors and body armor to keep you protected. How can Scott jump into a crowded market and think they can come out on top? Well it is a world-wide vision and anyone from Europe has seen the extensive line of Scott USA products that go beyond goggles and more recently boots, so this is just an expansion back into the homeland for a well established international brand. And with a strong bicycle brand, a growing running shoe company and various other franchises that produce everything from eyewear to gear bags, the expansion of the motocross gear line in the US is a logical growth spurt. And with price points on all the gear that seemed very competitive, expect to see more and more of Scott in the future, even if you have been looking through it for years. The full facts (and prices) are scheduled to hit the news on June 1st and gear should be available in select dealers by July. For more info you can check out www.scottusa.com
