For an urban runabout with the slim chassis and sporty acceleration of a dirt bike together with the road-handling agility of a sportbike, the KLX300SM is the ultimate combination. The KLX300SM supermoto brings the trail bike character of a Kawasaki KLX into the urban realm for a unique flavor of fun. By dirt bike standards, it is a full-size bike; by street standards, a 300cc single is considered a lightweight. Appreciate that for either way you slice it, and you can also appreciate that the KLX300SM received a price cut from $6599 to $5849 for the 2025 model year.
The KLX300SM is very similar in appearance and on paper to its dual sport sibling, the KLX300. And while they differ only slightly in a few areas, such as suspension and chassis, the riding experience between the two is quite different. The KLX300SM features similar suspension components, but with stiffer spring rates and slightly less suspension travel, tuned more toward road use. The wheels are 17 inches front and rear as opposed to the dual sport’s 21-inch front and 18-inch rear. The handlebar of the SM is slightly narrower (great for urban agility), and the gearing is taller which helps at highway cruising speeds. You’ll also find a larger front brake on the KLX300SM for improved stopping power on the pavement.
When it comes to the ride, the 17-inch wheels of the KLX300SM are the core of its unique supermoto character. Wrapped in road tires, the SM offers a more nimble sportbike-like ride on the street. Yet it is still a KLX, and still retains its off-road capabilities at the same time. So if you’re looking for a do-it-all runabout but trend more toward the asphalt, the KLX300SM might be for you.
The 2025 Kawasaki KLX300SM is available in Battle Gray and Phantom Blue for $5849.
