Husqvarna AB, the parent company of Husqvarna North America, has reached an agreement to acquire a minority holding in Agusta Motor SPA at an undisclosed price with an option to further increase this holding.Agusta Motor SPA develops, manufactures, and sells off-road motorcycles under the Husqvarna name through dealers around the world.Husqvarna's motorcycle business was founded in 1903 and sold to Cagiva, an Italian manufacturer, in 1987. The timing of the re-acquisition coincides with the 100th anniversary of the operation. Husqvarna itself has a corporate history that dates back to 1689."Motorcycles have contributed significantly to the creation of Husqvarna as a leading brand for engine powered products like chain saws and made the brand familiar in many parts of the world," said Bengt Andersson, chairman of Husqvarna AB. "As the Husqvarna motorcycles continue to demonstrate world leading performance, they help make the Husqvarna brand stronger, and strong brand names are crucial to our business."We believe that Husqvarna AB's minority ownership in the Agusta Motor SPA will help both parties to find ways to cooperate regarding brand communication and other areas of common interest," Andersson concluded."Motorcycle enthusiasts in the U.S. are likely already familiar with the Husqvarna name in that arena," said David Zerfoss, president of Husqvarna North America. "Our return to the motorcycle business will enhance our reputation for top quality equipment and create expanded brand building opportunities.
