If you were launching a new company for motocross and off-road product, and could pick any pitchman to get the public aware of your new goodies, who would you pick? Me, I'd go with Bob Hannah, for a few reasons.1) He's Bob Hannah, so his stamp of approval is golden.2) He says some really funny things.3) He's not afraid to be a goofball on camera (If you are a Bob Hannah fan, or just not a Tony DiStefano fan you need to see the spoof Bob and Todd Huffman of Pipeline Digital Media made on Tony D. The spoof isn't released yet (Come on, Todd!) but you can see some of the outtakes HERE)Matrix Concepts got Bob to pitch the company's new products, in his own unique way -Bob pitches, literally, the BIKE STAND.Bob pitches the LOADING RAMP.Bob pitches the TRACK MAT.Bob pitches the UTILITY CAN.I thought it would be fun to hear more from Bob about how this pitchman job came about -PP: What's your relationship with Matrix Concepts?
BH: I'm like family with the Coles (Eddie Cole and family), like their uncle. I met Eddie Cole in 1974. I've been buddies with him and involved in all of his companies since then. Answer, 661, Matrix... I do whatever they need me for... I'm a crash dummy and test rider. I test their stuff and they were telling me to test some of their stuff so I tested it in a little different way than they thought... I like the unconventional testing better than Eddie Cole's testing methods... The jug works really good for iced tea, my dogs like laying on the mats, and we like throwing (stuff) out of airplanes. If the stand holds up to that we figure it'll hold up to a motorcycle.PP: Who's idea was it to chuck a bike stand from an airplane?BH: I think my idea. never even knew we did that until he saw that. We just put that in there. I don't know what Eddie thinks of it, I didn't ask him. PP: These videos look like the funny stuff you do with Todd Huffman. How much convincing does it take to get you to ham it up and be funny on video?BH: Zero.PP: Your Tony DiStefano roast video was hilarious. Do you have any more of those planned for other riders?
BH: I don't know. We've done 'em a lot for the Monsters of Motocross, so I don't know if I'll do another one of those or not. But I'm sure when Matrix gets some new products we'll do some new stuff.PP: How did Tony DiStefano take that spoof?BH: Tony and I are good friends, so he thinks it's funny. Also - For anyone going to the Monster Energy Supercross at Dodger Stadium on January 22, 2011, Bob Hannah will be there, so look for him in the pits signing autographs and waving to fans.To hear more about the Halloween event Monsters of Motocross, check out www.monstersofmotocross.com.
