7th Extreme Lagares
Lagares, Porto, Portugal

What does a Trials rider do when he’s getting bored? He swaps his Trials bike with an Enduro and makes the classical Enduro riders sweat in an Extreme Enduro race. And swaping the bikes seems to be getting more and more popular if you look at the world’s elite in Extreme Enduro. Almost all of them are coming from a very strong Trials background, including 2011 superman Graham Jarvis (UK, Husaberg) and 2009 Romaniacs winner Andreas “Letti” Lettenbichler who spent 22 years on the light and slow Trials bikes before he did his first Enduro race at the Erzbergrodeo in 2006, scoring an astonishing 2nd place right behind The Knighter, David Knight.

The twelve time Trials World Champion Dougie Lampkin (UK, GasGas) dominated the international Extreme Enduro elite at the 7th Extreme Lagares in Portugal. Efficient as a (German) robot Dougie worked his way through the tiring river beds and endless rock sections, using his long legs to work the bike. Breathtaking for the thousands of spectators who cheered their heroes up the steep, rocky and dusty mountains.Right after Lampkin, another Trials rider showed an impressive performance. The 2011 Junior Trials World Champion Alfredo Gomez (ESP, Husaberg) had been asked to participate and he made a lot of enthusiastic Portugese fans scream and shout with incredible moves on his two stroke.

Xavi Galindo (ESP, Husaberg) secured a solid third place and was quite happy about it: “I’ve had bad luck in almost all of the last races, went for a decent swim in that lake during the Romaniacs, lost the podium to Chris Birch at the Red Bull Sea to Sky a week ago and now I’m really happy to be on the podium here at Extreme Lagares.”Lampkin however complained a bit in the finish: “It honestly didn’t go too well. The injury at the ankle I cought in May this year still hasn’t recovered and it hurt during this race. It was very dry and still quite hot and the stones But, hey, I made it and it feels good havong won this race.”
