Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX1′s Cairoli arrived in Spain with a heavy pain in his thumb but he managed to get the overall victory after finishing second in the first heat and dominating the second race from the beginning to the end. Cairoli was the virtual red plate holder during the last lap, but Desalle made a last minute overtake and the Italian remained second in the point standings, just one point behind the Belgian.Monster Energy Yamaha’s Phillipaerts was very satisfied with his second overall position, as he struggled a lot in the last Grand Prix after his overall victory in Brazil. Philippaerts was third in the first race, but he could only be fourth in the second one, as his energies fade away to keep the third position from Desalle’s pressure. His teammate Steven Frossard did an incredible first race, and after an initial third position, he was able to overtakeNagl and Cairoli and placed his Monster Energy Yamaha machine in the first position. Frossard started 15th in the second race and he could only finish ninth as he was suffering a lot of pain on his hand.Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MX1′s Desalle was fourth overall due to his 5-3 results. Desalle made a mistake in the beginning of the first heat and had to ride without rear break during the whole heat as some green fence got stuck on his back wheel. In the second moto, Desalle also made several mistakes but he gave all his best to finish third and keep the red plate on his Suzuki machine.Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX1′s Nagl did a very good qualifying race yesterday, but he could not make it to the podium today and finished fourth overall. The German finished fourth and fifth respectively, so he gained some confidence for the upcoming Grand Prix and try to be back on the podium and close the gap with the Championship leader Desalle.Leok finished 13th in the first heat, but in the second one, he did a great start and kept the second position until the chequered flag. The Estonian finished sixth overall and could not improved his 13th position in the point standings, but he obtained some valuable points to get closer the top ten.Home rider Barragan did not have a good first race and finished ninth. However, he managed to ride third during some part of the second heat, but he had to settle down with a final fifth position, which gave him the overall seventh place.Bobryshev and Goncalves struggled a little bit this weekend and finished eighth and ninth respectively, while Boog completed the top ten.Home riders Campano and Lozano finished 15th and 23rd respectively.Tony Cairoli: “I made one small mistake when I was leading in the first race when I was in the lead then I didn’t have the chance to pass again. They I took the holeshot in the second race. Tanel Leok was riding very fast and I couldn’t pull away but then maybe he was getting a bit tired so I could make a good gap. I think in Sweden we can take back the red plate.”David Philippaerts: I’ve had too many crashes recently so this result was important for the confidence. I was fast in the second moto and had a little fall trying to pass Leok. I then pushed too much to catch and pass Barragan and Leok again and in the last two laps I didn’t have any more energy to give. The track was hard and it was very hot. I didn’t train last week because of the crash in Portugal but now we have a break I want to do more exercise and also use the time to do a little bit more testing on the bike. I want to keep at the top of every GP now; this is my goal.Steven Frossard: I’m very happy for the first race but I lost any chance of the GP win in the second. I think the gate was a little bit soft and had a bad start. I touched together with Clement and we didn’t crash but we lost speed. I pushed hard but again had pain in my hand after about twenty-five minutes. It was hard to grip and ride like I want. I haven’t been able to train during the week so I hope to use this next week to recover and get better.MX1 Race 1: 1. Steven Frossard (FRA, Yamaha), 39:48.680; ; 2. Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX2′s Roczen dominated both heats and obtained his third Grand Prix victory of the season. In the end of the first heat, Searle was really close to Roczen, but the German crossed the finish line first three seconds ahead of the Brit.CLS Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit’s Searle was very close to win the first moto, but Roczen managed to keep the lead until the chequered flag. Tommy is satisfied with his performance, as he proved to himself that he is very close to beat his main rival and leader of the Championship, Ken Roczen.
Third overall was Monster Energy Yamaha’s Paulin thanks to his 4-3 result. The French rider started 12th in the first heat and he had to fight really hard to finish among the top five. In the second race, Gautier kept the initial third position until the end and he is now determined to improve his third overall result in the upcoming GP.Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX2′s Herlings did not have a very good feeling on the Spanish track and he could only take an overall fourth position. Herlings was third and fourth in today’s races and he is now second in the point standings, six points behind his teammate Roczen.Bike-it Cosworth Wild Wolf Yamaha’s Tonus showed an incredible riding style this weekend and he managed to obtain an overall fifth position. Tonus improved one position in the MX2 point standings and he is now sixth, 16th points behind his teammate Osborne.Aubin started second in the first heat of the Spanish GP, but he crossed the finish line in the fifth position. The French rider did not have a good start in the second one, but he managed to finish eighth and he obtained a final overall sixth position.Roelants was seventh overall and Coldenhoff obtained his best result this season, being eighth ahead of Kullas and Triest.Kullas was second in the start of the first race, but he had arm pump and could only finish tenth in both heats.Osborne did several mistakes in the first heat and at some point a rider crashed on his Yamaha machine and had to pull out from the race. In the second heat, Osborne finished in a consistent 6th position.Ken Roczen: “I came here in a lot of pain and it didn’t work out so well yesterday because I was still in a lot of pain but now we had some good days. I was really calm and riding smooth and this is what I needed. I finally won two motos and I made two mistakes. Now I will go back home to relax a bit because I want to come back strong in Sweden.”Tommy Searle: “I feel that we made another step this weekend, even if I didn’t win the GP. I’m very happy with my first race. I had some good lines, and I felt really good on the bike. I had a decent start and passed Herlings and Aubin to get to second and close down Roczen, but there was only one good line round most of the track and I lost time behind lappers. I started thinking about the overall win when I got my first holeshot of the season in the second race. That was great ! I had a good jump out of the gate, and the bike was perfect, but then I made a silly mistake during the first lap when I went wide in a corner. That’s how Roczen passed me and it took me a couple of laps to find a good rhythm again. It was really hot and sticky today; normally I’m strong in these conditions but after about 15 minutes I felt a little tired. I didn’t get the right food in the hotel on Saturday evening, and I think that it affected my shape today.”Gautier Paulin: I had a really bad start in the first moto and it was difficult to pass. I pushed hard to come back and was pretty happy with the race. I made some good lap-times and felt fast. My second moto start was better and made things much easier. I’m really happy to have this team behind me and the support and equipment they give to me. I have so much fun on the YZ250FM and I’m really motivated. I enjoyed the track a lot here and now just need to work on my starts for the Grands prix to come. We will do a little bit of engine and suspension testing next week.Zach Osborne: The weekend was worse than mediocre. It was a big disappointment because this is the home race for our main sponsor Wild Wolf and I wanted to put on a good show and it just didn’t happen. The bike wasn’t right in the first race. I made two small crashes but if things had been going well then I wouldn’t have been in those situations to crash. In the second race it was sort of the same; not really pulling. I did what I could to finish sixth. I think we have seen worse tracks although Bellpuig would have been better.MX2 Race 1: 1. Ken Roczen (GER, KTM), 38:42.572; 2.
