Dialed-in WR300
Hey Guys, I’ve been riding Huskys since 1994, (been riding since 1968). I’m 58 yrs old, race GNCCs, NETRA, AGP, etc. I’m from Hamden, Ct. Your test on he 300 smoker was very well done. The little problems you guys had are very similar to what I found with my bike. I have an ’09 WR 250, bored to a 275cc and ported by Eric Gorr. First the jetting, I went to the Husky comp kit witch consists of No. 4 slide, next leaner needle, set on 4th leanest setting, 400 main, air at two turns out, no drool. Next brakes, dump the solid rotor, I went with a braking wave, works great, along with EBC hard metallic pads. Had leaky fork seals also, C-Cycle in Hampton Ct. put in gold valves, new seals and they work pretty good, Shock was OK, put bladder instead of piston, works good. My buddy has a 300, the same thing done on his bike also. Glen Kearny running at the GNCCs uses a Magura hydraulic clutch, pretty light pull. I extended my clutch actuating arm about 1/2 an inch, and it pulls like a 125! I also run a larger rear tire, 120/100/18 Perelli Scorpion XC, helps slow the revs just a little. That’s about it.John Dunn

It is refreshing to see an owner with an open mind. Dirt Rider doesn’t have an axe to grind with any brand. We as a staff and test crew generate opinions, and the person writing the test compiles that information. We call ‘em like we see ‘em. With the Husky we know that the machine has a great deal of potential. Nothing that we pointed out as a problem was major, and as you have proven, most of our objections can be tuned/modified away. The bike is certainly worth the trouble. -Karel Kramer
