As the CycleFest in Copper Mountain schedule shapes up, dual sport riders can be happy, so far there are two Dual Sport rides on the list; a MSR Dual Sport Ride on Saturday, 23 August and a Suzuki Dual Sport Ride, Sunday, 24 August.To keep things legal, safe and fun, there are some criteria you need to meet before joining us on the trail.These requirements are: Your motorcycle must be Colorado Street legal, with insurance and a sound level test of less than <96db. Obey the local speed limits, and all travel regulations. This is not a race, slow down and enjoy the sites. Have your motorcycle prepared for Colorado 4WD type riding (rocks, etc.) Be prepared to fix any flats you might have. You must be able to do 50 miles between gas stops.GENERAL INFORMATION: There will be route guides along the 4WD roads and a sweep crew will sweep the entire route. If you break down, stay on the prescribed route, the sweep crew will find you.Medical support is located at Copper Mountain, and Leadville. Only use 911 for significant medical emergencies, the sweep crew will handle minor problems. Other calls, concerns etc. should go to CycleFest Dispatch at the number on your map.NOTE: SPECIFIC ROUTE SHEET TO BE PROVIDED AT REGISTRATION.Saturday: MSR Dual Sport RideThis is a B level ride that will take you to the towns of Leadville, Alma, and Fairplay. These are historic old Colorado mining towns with a lot of historical sites to see and visit. We suggest you take your time and visit each of these areas during your ride. Museums, mines, mountain peaks, points of interest and restaurants will be listed on your map as will emergency numbers.The ride will start between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM and should get you back into Copper Mountain in 4 to 5 hours. The route will take you over Mosquito Pass (12,000 feet) and Weston Pass (11,000 feet). The length is approximately 100 miles long and gas stops are available in Fairplay (lunch) and Leadville. The following is provided to make this a very enjoyable experience for you.The route will be marked with arrows and you will be furnished with a map with the route and mileage. A “bail out” point will be designated at the town of Alma for the quickest return to Copper Mountain.Sunday: Suzuki Dual Sport RideThis is a B level ride that will take you to the town of Leadville and surrounding areas to the west.The ride will start between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM and should get you back into Copper Mountain in 4 to 5 hours. The route will take you over Haggerman Pass (12,000 feet) twice. The length is approximately 75 miles long, and the only gas stop is at Leadville (lunch). The following is provided to make this a very enjoyable experience for you. Museums, mines, mountain peaks, points of interest and restaurants will be listed on your map as will emergency numbers.The route will be marked with arrows and you will be furnished with a map with the route and mileage. There is no designated bail out location for this ride aside from the lunch spot in Leadville.
