See what brought out the crowd – the Big Buck creek jump on video. Andrews makes it 4 Winners for 4 Races.
It has been a tough year so far for Team Kawasaki ace Fred Andrews – weather, crashes and mechanical problems plagued him the previous three races. Round four in sunny South Carolina was no picnic either; Andrews had to overcome some extreme fatigue to pull off his first win of the year.
Lafferty, without a doubt the fastest rider of the day, overcame a hard crash (which also broke his drink system) just three turns into the race and stormed all the way to the lead. But two hours into the three-hour race, the first lap crash and hard charge started to exact a toll on the KTM pilot; Andrews stepped up the pace and wrestled the lead away from Lafferty. Just before hitting the white flag, Am-Pro Yamaha’s Jason Raines passed Lafferty too and latched onto the Andrews’ rear fender for the final 12-mile loop, but Andrews held off the Washington-native.
Andrews hung on to win, Raines landed on the podium in second, while Rodney Smith of Team FMF Suzuki passed Lafferty for the final podium spot. The current points leader Barry Hawk, also of the Am-Pro Yamaha squad, finished fifth after bending a front brake disc and stopping for a repair.
