TWO WINNERS IN TWO MUDDY OPENING GNCC ROUNDS
Barry Hawk wins Hurricane survival fest and Mike Lafferty redeems himself at the GeneralBarry Hawk led a Yamaha sweep at the Opening round of the GNCC series, which took place in Palatka, Florida. Torrential rains played havoc on the race so much that “muddy conditions” is considered an understatement. Fellow Yamaha riders Robbie Jenks and Jason Raines followed Hawk up on the podium. The conditions were so grim that nearly half the Pro field never made it to the finish line. The rains that plagued Florida extended northward to ensure that the next round a few days later in Washington, Georgia had its fair share of mud, despite a sunny race day. On a quest to avenge his bad finish in Florida, Mike Lafferty flung his KTM thumper through the mud at a blistering pace to win with a minute to spare over round one winner, Hawk. Rounding out the podium was Suzuki’s Rodney Smith. More in our June issue. For more results, go to www.gnccracing.com
