Round three of the National Enduro series brought riders from all over the country to the forests of northern Georgia. Moist red Georgia clay, cool temperatures and miles of tight trails made for a great day of riding for all the competitors.Six-time champion Mike Lafferty was trying to get his quest for the ’05 Enduro championship back on track, and indeed he did at Greensboro, Georgia—the same site of his first national win in 1997.At the end of the first of eight test sections it was clear that Lafferty was all business, posting a near-perfect score of 0:31, followed by local heros Bobbitt, Edmondson and Palmer as the only riders to zero the first check. The bulk of the points this day would be taken in a 24-mile section of tight woods broken up into three sections. Most of the top riders scored a two in the first section, but then in the next two segments Lafferty began to pull away going 5-6 compared to Bobbitt’s 6-7, Edmondson’s 6-8 and Hawkins’ 6-8.Two short tests would remain to finish the day as Lafferty held a three-point lead over Bobbitt. Each rider came through the seventh section with a three but Lafferty was able to gain one more in the last six-miler, posting a two to Bobbitt’s three.
